Mariah's New Baby! (Miniature Horse)
« on: January 28, 2008, 09:11:25 AM »
Well She finnally had her baby on January 26th..
I am sooo Thankful to the Lord that the weather was permitting as it was born at around 7 pm and it was dark. I looked out and saw this little bump in the grass whith Mariah sniffing at it, and I realized that this could be her foal..
There it was in the grass with her little her little head up looking around helplessly cold, and dripping wet. We helped to dry her off and cleaned her up, but it took around 3 hours to get her completly dry.
If it wasent for the rain forcast it would have been very cold at that hour so you can see why we are so thankful.
We decided to give her an Arabic name called Amira, which means princess..
Here she is dripping wet, and then a following morning dry picture.

Thank you for noticing Helmstead!
You have been doing your homework on champagnes I can tell.
I wasent going to say anything cause, the Champagne registry has not given me the final approval, but all indicators say she is!  :newclap:
I just need to submit one more non-flash eye photo of her to finalize it, but the weather has been so gloomy lately I have to wait.

I'm an equine color genetics geek :-D.  I used to have a friend that bred classic champagne QHs and showed them dressage.  Fell in love.  I'm sure she'll gain approval!

Thanks ya'll, Ive got her in a little pen with her dam right now as the rain has left too much wet on the pasture for her to play in..
But it didnt stop us from snapping a couple more photos of her today.
She is all but about 15-20 pounds right now.

I dont care what you call her...champagne or not....she is absolutely precious!!!
Hubby has talked about getting the kids a horse....I keep saying no...(my plate is full!)
But if there was one around that looked like her, I'd have one in a minute!
More pictures please....she's gorgeous.

Thanks Guys,
She only stands 21" tall and will most likely mature around 30".
I 'll try to get better photo's of her this weekend..
Right now we are limiting her pasture time due to the mud.
This photo was snapped on her first outting with her dam.

Here's a great site that will clue you in on the Champagne gene, and how it affects skin pigment, coat color, and eye color...  http://www.ichregistry.com
( I have heard that some goats even have this gene)
In order to produce a Champagne offspring you have to have at least "one Champagne parent."
Also all Champagnes are always born with Bright blue eyes, although they may amber out as they age.
Just for fun, here's Amira's eye shot at 2 days old.

Yup re: goats!  I have one, Two Spot, my polled doe.  I call her a dilute so as not to totally confuse people...she's the goat equivalent of a champagne with dun factor and pinto markings LOL
