'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.' - Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Do you have to use a step stool to climb on?

:smily961:  I had a Quarter Horse that was 15.3 hands and I had to practically lean all the way backwards just to get my foot in the stirrup.  I was younger then and could actually get my leg up that high.  I wondered what you did to climp up.

she's beautiful!  My DH is taking me to look at a black Percheron mare on Sunday.  Supposedly she is hefty but not so heighty, but throws huge babies.  I am leary, I can barely get on my 15h mare.  But he wants a black percheron so I suspect we are going to get her if she is decent.

Ho-hum... I need a BIG horse or two; problem too is I would want a stable hand to clean up after them - tee-hee!

Well, she eats hay like it's going out of style.  I'd say around 50-60 lbs a day.  She gets a 10%/6% pelleted feed at the same rate as our lights...so in that respect she is the same as any horse.  It's the hay that gets you!

My neighbor was having a yard sale today and lost his 2 belgims of 28 years, this last year, do to old age, and has a like new leather harness with the long reins, with crome available for purchase.
I can get you in touch with him if you like.

Yes, Debi, we are truely horse POOR!  And mostly because of Miss Marcie!

I am honestly scared to death of driving horses.  I've decided to ease into it with our mini...but it will take a lot of time to be comfortable behind a draft.  Marcie has no driving training, either, since all she knows Ben and I have taught her!
