A new home for Santana
« on: April 25, 2007, 10:04:12 AM »
Santana our December born miniature filly, got a  body clip about a week or so ago..
We finally got to see what was under all that baby fuzz..  :icon_lol:
She is 4 1/2 months old now, and I think we determined her color to be a black based silver.
She is going to a new home in Kansas, with her mom soon, and I thought I would share her final look with every one..  :smileywavey:

She is gawjus!  I'd love to see a genotype on her.  You stare long enough and you come up with like 3 color possibilities...!  Course they all look a little funny body clipped - my buckskin colt turned BLUE!  He looked like a blue roan (and still does - the buckskin hairs are just starting to return over his topline).

Bet she'll be a great producer after a fabulous show career for her new mom!

Thanks guys, Actually what I meant was that she will be going to Kansas with her Dam, as the buyer purchased them both.
Also Helmsted, she  (Santana) is a "black based silver,"( Silver on Black) just like her famous great great grandsire.
Ive a photo' of  him, to show you his similar color.

Wow!  She looks lust like him!  Would you mind explaining the color a bit?  How does it relate to a silver dapple?  Im not very 'up' on the silver gene...other than that it can come with genetic eye problems as reported in RMHs.

Santana's Sire "carries 2 black genes" (heterozygous for black) and Santanas Dam carries the silver gene that passed down from the great grandsire.. in the above link.

Silver is a "dilute gene" unlike grey. which was passed it to the grandsire, (see new link) which passed  to Mariahs, sire, which passed it to Mariah..who gave it to Santana.http://www.futoncovers.net/minihorses/images/Creation.jpg.

So the silver gene although not readily apparent in Mariahs sorral color, was hiding in her, and popped out in Santana..
I was really surprised to see her clip out almost pure white!
