Speedy is my little boy

Speedy is a Sulcata tortoise.  He hangs out with the goats since his diet is almost the same.

   That is so cool!  Do the goats launch off his back?  I can just see some of mine doing that.

'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.' - Theodore Roosevelt 1907

I have been thinking about getting one of these but wasn't sure if they would be okay with the goats.  Does Speedy share the barn/housing with the goats also?

He has his own little den that he goes into sometimes they will all be in the shade together.  Just remember these guys are a huge commitment.  He will very likely outlive me and be passed on to one of my daughters. Let me know if you have any questions.

:hoot:  LOVE him!  Not native to the US? - if not, what part of the world would he call home (before Texas!)  :lol3:

Do you have a picture of his house?  I do have someone who would take over if he outlived me.
My main concerns with getting one were: 1) Danger of the goats climbing on him.  2) Any germs the goats could pick up from him. and 3)  What do you do during colder days?  I see you live in Texas and maybe don't have to worry about that as much as Mississippi.

On really cold winter days/nights he stays in a shed with a heater. I would post a picture but its nothing glamorous its a pile of pallets that he dug under. The goats like climbing on the pallets and he  goes under them. Pallets are great!!!!
