Hamster Medications
« on: November 06, 2006, 12:31:04 PM »
Well, the hamster is getting old and she was a bit cold and shaky last night(basically curled up and cold as if she were dying), so I had to hurry up and figure out what to do with her. After drenching with electrolytes I was able to get her back to her normal hamster behaviors. Unfortunately, I think her time is near, but I bought my son some time with his dear friend.
So in case anyone has one go down and need supportive care:
I found out that hamsters can have goat nutri-drench:1 cc per 3lb. every 6-9 hours.
Pedialite, gatoraid and probios is fine too.
They can also have some antibiotics, I will list them in another reply when I have more time to do so.

Well, the hamster is doing just fine!!!
From what I read, the hamster lifespan in about 2 years. This one is over 2. I also read that female hamsters are know to die of cancer of the reproductive tract unfortunately,..

Yes, pretty much the same.
Just have to be VERY careful with any anti-biotics, apparently their guts don't handle them well and clostridium can develop rapidly.
