I think they are so neat, and would like to get some and build a nice chicken coop.. I know NOTHING about chickens.. we used to have some and something would always steal their eggs before I could get them... but I am trying to convince hubby to have like just 3-4 that is all.

I have one...would love to have more, the colored eggs are great.
The breed you are looking for is Ameriacauna...aka Easter eggers.
TSC has some right now...depending on where you live. Chick days are here in MI at the TSC's.

I don't have good luck with chickens from TSC.. ours always seem to be doing badly.. they have a ton that are lying in the bins dead already with the live ones still with them.. I think if I can convince hubby I will get them from mcmurray hatchery.  I am praying I can get hubby to say yes

McMurray is the absolute best place to get birds. Excellent decision!

I have some of those araucana/americana chickens.  Got 5 pullets a couple yrs ago.  We had ordered cornish cross and then some of these americana and rhode Island reds also.  We already had some rhode Islands and a few bantys.   Last yr one of the bantys decided she wanted to hatch out some eggs.  There was blue eggs under her so let her sit to see what we would get.  The rooster we had was all black (I'm assuming he was a black australorp).  Anyways all 12 eggs were black chickens but you know some of the hens from those eggs are laying blue eggs and they don't even have the "puff" of feathers on the side of their heads - never would have guessed that being mixed - that they would lay the blue eggs.

We get different shades - mostly blue to olive green.  My husband sells them at work and most of the guys would rather have the blue eggs over the brown.  But they also like the fact that they are farm fresh eggs.  We have over 30 head  and get like 2 dozen a day in the summer.

I just really HATE cleaning eggs.

I think I am gettin closer to gettin hubby to say yes    I am going to tell him I will build the chicken coop myself no work to him.. maybe he will feel sorry for me and do it, but if not I am prepared to do it myself.  Hubby really is great, he loves all our animals.  He just bought a new pair of boots killed my pocket book, but I said I don't want to hear it when I get some more critters  LOL

Yeap I love my chickens I have 3 hens and a Rooster. They lay the blue egg. I just love them Charlie my roo is a big boy he is such a proud fellow to. He gets up on the gate and sticks his breast way out and gives the loudest crow ever. I just think the world of him.

I have quite a few of the colored egg layers.. I love them too. A matter of fact. I cross bred my Araucana Rooster with some of my brown egg layers and took those eggs and incubated them and got some half araucana female hens out of the bunch and they lay "" I kid you not"" Camo colored eggs... Really ,,, it's so neat.. my hubby loves to hunt and so when I put all the camo colored eggs in a carton he gets a real kick out of it... Looks just like his clothes he wears ""all"" the time. All the eggs the cross hens lay are all shades of light  green, dark green and  brownish green, it's really neat.. I'm doing it again this year too. Right now I have a bunch in the brooder.  Hope your hubby gives into the chicken idea.. because once you go chicken that's it... your hooked....hehehee Ruth
