Wanting an Alpaca - or two
« on: March 05, 2005, 05:27:07 PM »
I have a friend that is wanting to get into raising Alpacas. She was greatly surprised at the costs of these beautiful animals. She's a farm girl, animal lover, own lots of land, barns, great vet, but NO alpaca to love. She will take pet quality-rescue etc.
We live in Virginia, anyone in this area or relatively close know of any available?

Thank you mam! There must be some in our entended area, or someone that knows of them, wouldn't you think? She owns her own business and quite capable of making a go of this, and would  give these guys everything they need. Thanks again!!!!!!!!

Here's a site that you can take a look at and it has a place that you can look at to see where a nearby farm is that raises alpacas.

Alpacas are not inexpensive, ranging from $10,000 to $40,000 for breeding females and $5,000 to $35,000 for high quality males. around Virgina at least. i wanted to get some alpacas and around here they are $30,000 to $60,000 for just one female  hope this helps :)

At auctions alpaca will go cheap unless you get into the best breeder or fiber animals then they can go for thousands of dollars.Mine sold for only $100.00 each..as pets

I know of a place here around here that adopts out llamas for a very reasonable fee and is all over the southeast and is willing to work with people just about anywhere.

actually yes you can get livestock insurance on them. tell your friend to go to alpacanation.com also many reigions throught the us have associations tell her to put in virigina alpaca assocaition or something like that. i live in ohio and the group i would belong to the great lake alpaca association. another idea go to local farms who board alpacas sometime people buy them and plan to do stuff with them and find out they dont want them, so they sell them cheap just to get rid of them.
