Prayers for strength
« on: March 03, 2011, 03:39:37 AM »
In 1994, my nephew and his GF (they've since married) lived in Baltimore City.  One night, two gunmen forced thier way into the apartment.  They tied up my nephew, then both invaders raped and sodomized my niece-in-law, robbed them and left, threatening them with death if they reported it.
A few years later, one of the rapists was arrested after another home invasion, and DNA evidence linked him to my family's case as well.  After YEARS of hearing nothing, and then the nigtmare is brought front & center.
During the rapists' trial, he sat there & smirked, laughed, and blew kisses at my nephew & his wife.
One juror refused to convict, causing a hung jury and a mistrial.
After several more years of new trial dates, and then continuances, his new trial date is set for this coming Friday.  They will again have  to face this soul-less bastard, and hope that he gets convicted this time.  They just want to put it behind them, once & for all, and move on with their lives.
Please pray for them, for closure & healing, and for justice to be served on their assailant.

What a horrible thing to have to go through again and again and again!  Prayers being lifted up that this trial  will bring closure and healing, and that the devil responsible will get exactly what he deserves.   :noflame:

But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag. Don't they all say that?  At least that's the story I heard in the courtroom every time we had criminal cases to deal with.

She texted me last night to say that she is scheduled to testify at 9:15 this morning, then her husband right after she was done.  Said the dirtbag is still claiming it was not rape, that it was a "group sex" thing........................and that she was scared to death and "fu*&ing freaking out" at the prospect of having to face her rapist again and relive the assaults.  And that the nurse who had been working the ER that night, and had administered the rape ki,t testified yesterday, and had kept her notes all these years.  And that it's a good thing she did, because the Baltimore City PD had lost theirs!!!!!!!!!!!!!    pullhair pullhair  Can you believe that?

She was supposed to let me know how it went, and got a text from her last nigt while I was at work.  She said they'd had her on the witness stand all day, that it really sucked, and that sjhe was exhausted.  Of course I want to know more, but told her to rest & regroup, and to call me when got the chance & felt like it.  Today must be my nephew's turn on the stand.

..............THE DIRTBAG RAPIST WAS FOUND GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  My nephew said a minimum of 3 consecutive life sentences!!!!!!

                                                                :gap:

AMEN to that!!  My niece had said earlier that the prosecuting attorney, who has been the same one throughout this case, all these years, has encouraged them to speak to the media about the ineptitude & mishandling of the case by the Baltimore City PD!!  Whatever....bottom line?  Justice was served - these young people can now get on with their lives, and no longer need to stress about this as*(^%$!!

Nic, looks like the other dirtbag will get away with it........................they've never been able to find out who he was.  Guess if the police did such a shoddy job, that should come as no surprise.  I'm actually surprised the dirtbag that DID get caught never rolled over on his partner in some sort of plea deal!!  No matter - although I'd love to see him get a punishment in THIS world, God knows what he's done - and if he's already left this earth, I can smell flesh burning from here.

As far as sentences, I was right - the sentencing hearing is scheduled for early May, and Debbie said she & Duane will get to make a statement to the judge.  Guess it's an "impact statement", where they tell about the ways and the degree to which the crime has adversely affected their lives.

Wow, I'm guessing his DNA is not yet in the system, but given his history, it may surface with time. I'd sure use that bit of information in my statement at sentencing, because this dirt bag has by not revealing his partner, further impacted your niece and nephew. I know I wouldn't be able to "move on" without both of them being incarcerated.

I am glad at least one of them will be paying for his crime. i am guessing, unfortunately, the other will slip up sometime somewhere and when he does....he will get his "manly" punishment.  I agree with Nic.......that sentencing hearing is going to be traumatic for Debbie and Duane but oh so important.......
