HELP!!!!! FLEAS

I am having a terrible time this year with fleas and need major help. I have used frontline, powders, sprays, baths, pill from the vet and did the house and nothing is working. I dont have any carpet in the house and I know that helps a little but its driving me nuts. I have a dog run off the back of my house and was told to sprinkle oyster shells in it and it helps kill the little burgers. I dont know how but I'm gonna try it. Does anyone have any advise or help. My cat and dogs need you.

I would sprinkle DE all over the run and dog areas, then spray the lawn with Permethrin, and I would put the dogs in the tub, and lather them up, let the lather sit for 20 minutes, and rinse. Then take the dogs, cats and animals outside, and bug bomb the house. I would repeat the process in 7 days.

I have never seen fleas and ticks like they are here in Indiana...ever.  Frontline I'm having to dose every TWO WEEKS on my dogs - it only holds the fleas off that long.  Comfortis works about 3 weeks, but isn't keeping the ticks off.  The dogs, sweet little buggers, were kind enough to bring the fleas indoors for us...so my housecats are having to get advantage, too and we've had to treat the appartment several times.

For your yard...I agree with Nic on the pyrethrin spray.  However you can also call an exterminator and ask them to treat the dog run and around your house - what they use works really well.  My vet has a carpet/upholstry spray that kills larvae and eggs, but it takes several treatments.  Sargents Gold spray works pretty darn well too, as does their pet shampoo.

We are having a awful time also. I have been abthing mine with  1/4 Dawn diswashing liquid (no bleach), 1/4 white vinegar and 1/2 water mixed together. This kills the fleas instantly and its harmful to the animals. I have heard that the stuff you get at Wal-mart is killing dogs and cats as the spot treatment from tehre is supposedly wasp spray. Dawn and vinegar is alot cheaper and I even bathe the small kittens I have with it.
My vet also said that you have to watch this stuff as its can be hard on the kidneys if they lick it. Also I have used Ivemec Plus to worm my dogs with and it seems to help also. I use the injectable given orally to the bigger dogs. I just bathe the smaller. Good luck its not fun...


Forgot to add that I also treat my yard with the granules that have Diazinon in it and you spread it out in the yard and then wet it down. I have to be careful what I use as we are on well water and dont want unnessary chemicals to leach into the water or septic tank.

Just remember not to dose shepherd and collie-type dogs with Ivermectrin...

Has anyone ever heard of using Tea Tree Oil for fleas - dilute n use to bathe

Haven't heard of that one, but have heard of herbal "flea collars" made using the herb Pennyroyal.

If you want to go holistic, put the dogs in the tub, lather with dish soap, let them stand there for 10 minutes with the lather, and rinse. The soap kills the fleas that are on the dogs, then you have to bug bomb your house, and I use DE in the areas where the dogs sleep, just sprinkled lightly.
