My dad and our family
« on: July 23, 2010, 03:59:55 AM »
Please include my dad and our family in your prayers. Yesterday my sister, my step-mother and I took my dad to the doctor for the results of a liver biopsy. It turns out dad has the most aggressive form of cancer out there, and it is in his liver (necrotic tissue already) and in his cecum. Dad is too weak to do the only kind of treatment for this cancer, which is chemo, and so we are heading down the path of hospice. The doctor gave dad a prognosis of 2-3 months tops. This cancer is exactly the same thing that killed my mother, and from diagnosis to death it took 4 months. As if all of this isn't bad enough, dad has said he would like to see my brother (the black sheep of the family) and I have tracked him down, and left messages. My brother has not responded to any of  my messages, and I fear, dad will pass and my brother will never have a chance for a last good-bye. Please pray that my brother takes whatever steps are necessary to make amends with my dad before it is too late, and that dad goes quickly, without suffering. He is ready, he has made his peace with God, and looks forward to heaven. But his leaving the family behind, is hard on all of us.

'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.' - Theodore Roosevelt 1907
