Puppy Vaccinations
« on: May 06, 2010, 03:51:35 AM »
My daughter & son in law just got 2 new puppies - brother & sister. They are 8 weeks old now. After getting their first round of vaccinations about 2 1/2 weeks ago, the girl got sick and threw up immediately after getting it. Vet gave her Benadryl. Does anyone thing this was an allergic reaction or maybe she was just worked up & excited? We would like to give the next round at home, but I am afraid that if this was an allergic reaction she may do it again, or worse. Any ideas?  Thanks

I would give the shots, and yes, some dogs, like children have a reaction to the vaccine. Benedryl usually does the trick.

Where can I get Benadryl? Do you have to get from vet?

From the grocery store/Target/Wal-Mart, just about any where. We use the liquid Children's Benedryl.

I dose by weight, you just look on the back and it will say x amount for an adult, and an adult in the world of medicine is 150lbs, so you divide the amount of medicine by 150 and you have a per lb dose.
