New to breeding dogs...have some questions
« on: March 18, 2010, 01:00:04 AM »
We have a great pyrenees and she is defently prego...We took her to the vet tonight for her preg test and it was possitive...Now my question is is there anything special we should do for her...vitamims, special dog food, or anything? I was told froma friend to mix puppy chow in her dog food and we have been doing that but she doesnt want to eat unless we mix her food with goodies and she just started that about a week ago. I know she needs the extra goods right now but this will be our first litter are we are learning. Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated..Thanks a million

PS my son wants to know if we could give her around a tablespoon of yogurt in her food to help her eat. We havent changed the feed either except adding some puppy chow a month ago

If you are feeding a good dog food, the puppy chow should be enough. I would not feed yogurt, but I would add cottage cheese once in a while, just a heaping tablespoon. If your son's idea is to add live culture via yogurt, I would look at adding the powdered Probios, just a teaspoon sprinkled on top of her dinner should be enough, but check with the vet on that one, I've never given it to dogs.

We are just looking for something to add to her food to make her eat better. Will chicken broth hurt for her to have if we just put a little in with it like on the top?

If you are just trying to encourage eating, I have used: canned mackerel, just a tablespoon with a little of the mackerel juice, T of canned dog food and hot water, cooked and drained crumbled hamburger meat, shredded cheese, cottage cheese, cooked chicken, and a little of the broth, I don't use on the shelf broth because it is usually full of salt.
