Maggie is SO Sick!
« on: March 12, 2010, 12:40:51 PM »
My mini poodle, Maggie, started "honking" and after it began to get progressively worse, I yanked her up and took her to the Vet yesterday morning.  The Vet said she had the severest form of Bacterial Bronchial infection, gave her a shot of antibiotics, steriods, and gave me Prednisone and Hydrocodone.  This morning she's been vomiting up blood and the front of her neck is terribly swollen, so I'm taking her to her regular Vet for a second opinion on the treatment protocol.  She hasn't eaten or drunk anything for two days and I think she needs to be on IV fluids, too.  Anyway, we are worried sick about her.  We are heading to N. Carolina in the morning and were planning to take her with us so we could give her her meds, but hubby thinks she needs to be in doggie hospital while we're gone.  He may be right.  I'm just going around in circles trying to figure out how to relieve her suffering and getting our baby well again.  Prayers for us that we can do what we need to do to get Maggie well again.  I hate watching her so listless and so not her happy, healthy self.

Sandi,
I was just going to see if she was doing better. I hope her regular vet can figure out what is going on. Will keep her and you in my prayers that they figure it all out and she is on the mend soon... :hug2_202:

We lost Maggie this morning.  We rushed her to Decatur because she had collapsed and wasn't breathing.  We got her breathing again and kept her airways open until we got there.  They knew she was bad and had her on oxygen while getting x-rays and bloodwork.  The Vet suspected she was borderline diabetic due to her crazy blood count and felt that the steriod shot given yesterday is what sent her body into a downward spiral.  We will pick her up and bring her home to bury her.  Please pray for us now.  She was our baby.

I am so very sorry, you did everything humanly possible to save her, and she knew it. No more pain, no more breathing troubles, Maggie is at peace. :tissue:

:tissue: :tissue:  Sandie, I'm so very sorry about Maggie...............given yesterday's diagnosis, the steroid was completely in order and should've helped = there was no way you could've known about her possible borderline diabetes.  You're in our thoughts and prayers.

        AFTER DEATH

Farewell Master, yet not farewell
Where I go, ye too shall dwell.
I am gone before your face,
A moment's time, a little space.
When ye see where I have stepped,
Ye will wonder why ye wept.

:tyrose:  She just turned 7 in September.  We both are having a hard time with missing her so much.  I keep thinking I hear her when she's not here.  Then the realization hits that she's gone.

This is my little Maggie last fall.
