Prayers Needed - Chuck S.
« on: July 31, 2009, 02:05:25 PM »
Chuck is basically Ben's 'other' dad - his mentor and best friend in GA for years and his best man in our wedding.  In the past several years, he's had open heart sugeries, a liver transplant, several bypasses, and for the past two years has been on dialysis for kidney failure which has had its fair share of complications like infected ports, energy loss, weight loss and loss of effectiveness of the dialysis itself leading him to only be able to consume about 64 oz of liquid a day.  Last year, he spent over a month in the hospital, and Ben spent the night there with him every night until he finally was able to go home...this man means the world to Ben, and to our family.

Last Friday, he had a small heart attack.  Today, he was taken from dialysis to ER again with what they think is another.  He has another malfunctioning valve, and they don't think he's strong enough to survive surgery.

Please pray for God's will here, and for peace for Ben in this.  When I saw him Tuesday night, he looked better than he had looked some other times when he was especially sick - but I still got that sinking feeling.
Of course, he might still be to stubborn to die, but eventually he'll go home...and what a sad time that will be for those of us he leaves here.

Just got off the phone with his wife, she thinks he's being admitted this time.  Still waiting on bloodwork results.

It's been a long, drawn out story of win and loose.  Ben was at the hospital all day today, got home long enough to eat and the hospital called him to come back.

Sounds like Chuck is being called to heaven.

He's gone.  Went home at 2:30 this morning.  Been a hard week, an old friend committed suicide last weekend and now this...

We were telling the kids this morning (they loved their "Uncle Chuck").  Carrie said "We will get to see him again one day, Daddy...and maybe he can find my bestest dog Clancey in Heaven and play with her."  Then said "He's not that far away, Daddy!  Don't cry!"

"...out of the mouths of babes", truly!  Praying that those words, so innocent and full of faith, will help comfort Ben, and all those who loved Chuck.  And this is for you   :grouphugg:
