Sick dog
« on: September 02, 2009, 01:30:59 PM »
we have a dog that came down sick and the vet really has no idea what is wrong with her. This started yesterday when I was at work and just got worse as the night went by. SHe is vomiting and pooping out blood. OMG is terrible. He is treating her for a a stomach ulcer and an infection in her intestine. He also said she may need a blood transfusion if she looses much more blood. He did ask if she was poisoned and not to my knowledge but we have 7 dogs and she is the only one sick. Th evet is lost and so am I. Does anyone have any ideas?

I suppose he's x rayed or ultrasounded for a foreign object?

I pray she'll get well soon!  It's NO FUN when even the vet shrugs his shoulders!

Sure hopes she gets over whatever it is.  Sounds awful!

I would ask for an x-ray, a foreign body can cause the symptoms you are describing, and no amount of antibiotics or blood transfusions will cure a foreign body.

:scream: Xray shoulda been one of the first diagnostics!  I'd pretty much demand one.  When I was a surgical tech, these were the symptoms we'd see, esp when the foreign object perforated the intestines.

I hope your dog gets better soon. Could it be Parvo? That causes vomiting and diarrhea with blood.

well I have to say she is doing much better now. I know one of the meds was an antibiotic so maybe she had an infection of some sort but everything seems well now. Thanks everyone
