I am a wreck & need prayer!
« on: July 08, 2009, 05:31:30 PM »
Good grief!! - I am a rolling wreck!

A few years ago, I tore the ACL in my rigt knee.  Orthopedist said it was too stable for surgery, and I ended up doing PT, which helped me tremendously.  Well, now, being a few years older & several pounds heavier, the knee pain is back & worse than ever.

Then last month while sam was gone (actually the 18th, the day she came back), I managed to shut my left hand in the car door.  It was very painful & swollen but I could move all fingers, so just iced it & let it go.  Today, is still swollen & painful, and when I flex my wrist downward, it's a terrible, burning pain.

That nigt, I was helping her w/the goats, & slipped on the copious mud in the pen & fell into the mud.  If that wasn't bad enough, got in the shower to clean off the mud, and slipped on a part of the tub where the non-slip decals were, and twisted the left knee. It is now more painful than the other one, which is already terrible, and it gave out on me one day at work, and I collapsed!!  So thsi morning, went to the Dr. (finally); both knees & the hand have been x-rayed, and blood taken to test for Lyme's, since I had a deer tick attached about 6 weeks ago.

Advil wan't helping at all w/the knee pain, so I have some RX painkillers, ans they are helping somewhat, but still hurts like he*&.  So I need prayer for healing, please!

My x-rays came back with "arthritic changes"....................and I need to pay how much to be told something I already knew??  My primary advised a follow=up with the orthopedist, and that appointment is tomorrow afternoon.

In the meantime, the knee(s) are falling into the same pattern..................they feel great until I stress them or do something very strenuous, and then there's a sudden shooting terrible pain, and it is agony to bend them in the slightest.  I get off my feet, apply ice, and take pain killers, and they improve day by day, only to repeat the pattern again.

Last week, my client was not having a "good" day- she was weak, with poor balance, and mobility was very limited - I'd had to basically muscle her from recliner to potty to bed, etc.  That must've been the stress.  Shortly after that, I went up the only step from her kitchen to her library, and out went the knee - excrutiating pain - so bad I had to call my boss to ask to be relieved early.  We decided it was safest & best that I not return to work, at least until I get assessed by the ortho.  So no work/no $$$.   :bawling:

Sp prayers still, please, that whatever the cause, if it's in His plan, that it is something that can be corrected easily.

According to the MRI, I've torn both the medial meniscus and the lateral meniscus.  I've agreed to have arthoscopic surgery to repair it so I can recover, get some PT, and get back to work so I can make some $$$.

Oh yuck! Call the dr. you should be able to have coffee at 4am, that gives you 8 hrs for it to be out of your stomach. And Doreen, I'm not telling you to do it, but I have eaten many times 2-4 hours before surgery and never had a problem. They are just afraid you'll throw up while you're out.

Oh  I am much better today than yesterday!!  The surgery was uneventful (guess I'll have to take their word for it, since I was OUT!); and I have 3 small incisions in my knee (again, must take their word - I'll be able to unwrap & dsicard the bandages tomorrow).  But the 4-5 hours after I got home were miserable..................................I was in SSSOOO much pain!!!  I took the maximum dosage of RX pain med,  and they said after 2 hours I could supplement with 600-800 mg. of Ibuprofen.  Well, the pain was so bad (everything hurt - from my lower back on that side all the way down to my toes..........................I was supposed to keep ice on it & keep the knee elevated above my heart, so I couldn't do much shifting around to change positions to one that was more comfortable); that I only waited 1 hour, and thinking the Ibuprofen was 200mg, I took 4.  Well, they're actually 250mg, so then I started feeling first very hot (along with the terrible pain), then I got very cold, clammy, & sweaty.  Probably too much med. at one time.

Things got better after that -  I was walking only to the bathroom & back, using a cane, which I swore I would never do!!  I caned back to the bedroom, and actually slept pretty well, don't think I moved much from my elevated-knee on pillow position.  Have been doing much more walking today, still with the cane - walking farther & for longer stretches at a time.  Even cooked myself some rice, so am feeling much more independent!!!  I can bathe & shower tomorrow, and put Band-Aids over my incisions.  Walking is still quite painful, but is getting better so am sure things will just improve with each day.

The only small emergency so far???.................Steve was over at his mom's checking in on her, and Sam was in the shed, getting the goats' grain ready, and was listening to her iPod.  I was on the phone with my BIL when Rupert started chasing his tail!! (Rupert, not Bruce) - Rupert has done this ever since we got him & it's usually very cute & funny.  Well, he somehow got one or more of his claws imbedded in the flesh of the tail & couldn't get it loose!!!! - he was making these horrible, growly, screaming noisess & tumbling aroumnd!  I hung up & started yelling for Sam, thinking she might hear me since the DR windows were open.  Well, she didn't so I had to struggle to my feet (not so easy), and try to cane quickly over to the window & yell for her some more......I knew if I tried to get the tail free, he would bite the living crap out of me, even though I would only be trying to help - when an animal is in pain, things are different. Plus, I was afraid of losing my balance & hurting the knee worse!! .

In the meantime, Rupie had gotten his paw back, and all was well.  Kinda funny now, but wasn't at the time!!  :whew:
