'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.' - Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Yesterday we put up netting over the whole chicken yard so hopefully it will deter preditors from above.  Don't know how long it will last (used the deer netting) but it was cheap enough.  We priced chicken wire and it has gone up to $80+ for a 100' roll here and we would have had to purchase 4 rolls to cover everything.  That will be an absolute last resort.

Congrats on the new chickens. I have a few of those, really nice calm birds.

:ty2:  I'm excited about getting them.  Besides being a good utility bird, their reputation for being calm was one of the things I really liked.

Yep, you'll want to keep it covered.
A month or so ago  I watched a hawk try to swoop down and try to get mine. Luckily we have the fence on top(he smacked into it), but you should have heard those chickens scream/run when they saw that thing coming!
I know what you mean about resorts, we fenced our chicken yard/top in with fence my husband brought home from a job or something. I priced that chicken wire and I about had a cow!!  I would have bought it if I had too, but I didn't!!

Glad you're getting your Buff Orpingtons. They are great. I used plastic netting one time to make a chicken pen. It worked great for the chickens but I put some goats in one time because I needed a temporary shelter and they chewed it open and stepped right out!

:hehe:  Thanks!  I'll remember that if I ever have to use the chicken pen for a goat pen.
