getting a llama gelding maybe...
« on: May 17, 2008, 02:04:58 AM »
We are looking into purchasing a llama to guard our boers.  We have an Aussie Shepherd that will be in with them but with him and a llama we will feel more secure with spreading our babies out in the secondary fencing.  The one I'm interested in is a gelding and he is show quality but is supposed to be a great guard and easy to handle.  I may consider showing him someday but by being show quality that eases me as far as handling.

Congrats on getting a Llama. I have a female named Morgan and they are great herd protectors. But is he good with dogs? Dogs to llamas are like fox and other animals. My llama would kill my dogs if they went into the fence with her. That is what they are supposed to do. So he may not do well in the field with your dog. If you get him enjoy him they are beautiful wonderful animals. I love mine except the day she spit on me and when she decides to poo in the barn a big no no here.   :smily961:

Well, we plan to put our dog in one fenced area and the llama in the other fenced area.  I figured that would be the case if I tried to put them in together.
