Please Pray for my Dad
« on: February 23, 2008, 11:20:23 PM »
I just got a phone call from my mom. They admitted my dad in the hospital. They think it is his gallbladder. To most this would not be but a simple surgery but for my dad this is not a good thing he is on Blood thinners. And his other meds on top of that have made him have very low platelets. They have been trying for months to get his platelets up but nothing has helped. Meaning if surgery is needed he can not clot to stop any bleeding. Please keep him in your prayers that all goes well.

Thank you all.  :hug2_202: Brittney got to talk to her pap and he told her they have him on antibiotics. That may take care of the problem so he does not have to have surgery. You know I do not understand if he has such thin blood and his platelets are down why would his doctor  still have him on blood thinners. I am confused.

They can take him off the thinners and operate in two days, my guess is that is what they are thinking. Blood thinners help ward off a stroke and/or a heart attack, they are a very good thing.

Thank you. Well now it may not be his gallbladder. When they checked his sugar it was above 400 and is only supposed to be around 100 they are thinking now it is his pancreas. They have him on insulin to try to control his sugar. Nic I agree with the blood thinner can be a good thing. He was put on it a few years ago because he had a blood clot that went into his lungs. But since then he is on double the dose that most people take and my mother and I are at a loss of why with all his problems with his platlets being so low and them trying different things to get them up and taking him off of all his other meds to try to see if that would help. Why not take him off the blood thinners also. They can not do surgery even if they would take him off of it for two days. He now is what is a hemophilia.  He has server tremers Can barely feed himself and we do not allow him to do much because the worry of him getting cut and we can not stop the bleeding. Though he doesn't always listen. LOL!! I guess I am not a doctor and should leave it up to them to do the right thing. But hes my dad and I feel helpless at this moment. I'm sure he will be fine and I am over reacting. which is what I do best.  :icon_lol:

My dad has been on coumidin for 30+ years, and yes they can become bleeders. Most of the time, because they do regular clotting tests, they can modify their dosage level and greatly reduce that kind of risk. Dad has had several successful surgeries during the 30+ year period, and he has been fine.  My hope is that your dad fairs as well. Oh, and by the way, the less these guys do, the worse they get.

Thank you all for your prayers. Nic I found out that his platlets and the blood thinner are two different things the blood thinner is to thin the blood as for his platlets being low another med did that. As for not letting my dad do things he has always worked with tools and wood working. Sean and I use his mind when we need to build things. At times he will try to grab a tool and help. That is when we do not allow him to do things. His tremers are so bad.  It is truely sad and there is nothing they can do for it. Well I got the phone call he is having surgery on Wed they are giving him vit K. It is his Gallbladder which is so close to his pancreas That it has irritated it. Praying all goes well. Thank you again for your prayers.

Well they transfered him to another hospital today.  :icon_frown: He has something wrong with his heart. The hospital is about an hour away. So I went out and got all my moms dogs. So she would not have to worry about them. She more than likely stay there.  I will find out more tomarrow what is going on with him.

:hug2_202: Thank you. Well he had a stint put in he had 98% blockage. They are not going to do his gallbladder surgery for 4 to 6 weeks. Due to having to wait after this. God was watching over my dad. If he wasn't having problems with his gallbladder and his platlets were not low they would of did the surgery and would of never known that he had this heart problem. Hoping he can come home in a couple days. I feel awful for my mom she has to be stressed and awful tierd. Thank you again for all your prayers.  :grouphugg:

Last night I got a phone call from my mom about 11:00 pm saying my dad was back in the hospital. Only to get another phone call at around 3:00 am that they were life flighting him to another hospital. He was having server pains shotting up his arm and His gallbladder was hurting so bad. They have him on pain med. His heart was ok. But his gallbladder and Pancreas is irritated something awful. Just wanted to give you all an update. Thank you all for your prayers.  :hug2_202:
