The facts about Alpaca fiber
« on: January 07, 2008, 08:54:40 PM »
This is in responce to an earlier post by Jamie

In Peru alpaca fiber was called the fiber of the gods
It is softer than cashmere
5 times warmer than wool
2 times stronger
comes in 27 colors naturally
light colors can be dyed almost any color
it feels lighter than air
it is not scratchy like wool
it is hyproalergetic (sorry about the spelling)
there are about 101,000 registered alpacas in the USA
the more crimp in the fiber the more its worth
alpacas are sheered once a year
you will sheer between 8 and 13 pounds of fiber each year
the blanket (back) is what you use for sweaters ect.
the belly and legs is used for felting (hats, less expencive scarfs ect.)
the fiber should sell for $60.00 an oz (no kidding)
anything you can make out of wool or cotton you can make out of Alpaca
I have sold 100's of sweaters for between $60.00 and $500.00
if your interested I have 115 pounds of raw fiber for sale at a bargin price!
I also have a wonderful new full length brown/black reversible coat for sale!

PPS. if you would like a free sample of fiber
send a self addresses stamped envelope to
