Please pray for my Dad...
« on: September 02, 2007, 04:57:01 AM »
Hi Friends,
Just wanted to ask for your prayers...
As some of you know, my Dad was diagnosed last February with head and neck cancer.  He has been thru the whole gamut of radiation and chemo.  Unfortunately, it was not a cure and the Dr.'s have told my parents there is nothing more that they can do.

Dad just turned 90 in July, is a WW2 veteran, and is still in remarkable spirits. Most folks that meet him cannot believe he is 90.  Everyone guesses 60-65!  :hehe:

Anyway, while I am very grateful and thankful for the time he has left, I am so afraid that he is going to suffer greatly.

Please pray that God would be merciful to him and to us.  It will just break my mom's heart to watch him suffer.

Thank you.
The Good Lord gave you two ends.....one for sitting and one for thinking.  Heads you win, tails you lose.

Hi Friends,

I need your prayers again.

My dad is failing quickly and I would appreciate your prayers for peace and comfort.

The hospice nurse came in today and while she openly admits that no one can say for certain how much longer he has, she guesses about 2-3 days, if that.

Dad has confessed his belief in Jesus, and that he knows Jesus died for our sin.  He has accepted Jesus into his heart and believes that he will be going to Heaven.  Told me today that he will be there waiting for me when I get there.  And I believe he will.  I am so thankful to God for answering that prayer........I've prayed a long time for his salvation.  And I now have peace knowing where his soul will be. Glory to God!

Thanks for your prayers.  It means alot.

Our prayers are with you, and in this you will have to trust me. Tears will be shed at this passing, but let them be for those that are left behind, because your dad is about to receive a joy beyond measure, beyond our earthly understanding, for him I rejoice, for you and your family I weep, because I know he will be missed.

Thank you all so much.
My brother was able to come home from PA, and he is staying home until Dad passes on.
It's amazing how Dad was able to rally last night and come alive when he knew buck was home.  It was truly a gift...He was so happy to see his one and only son.
Anyway, he seems to have stabilized, as much as he possibly can at this point, but one just never knows.
I plan to be there daily to help and to support my Mom.

Thanks for your prayers.  Dad is comfortable, and that is most important to us at this point.

Nic, you are absolutely right.  We will grieve deeply because we love him so much and will miss him terribly.  But at the same time, I am giving thanks that I know where he is going!

Thank you again.  I will keep in touch as I am able.
Hugs to you all

Oh Vickie  :tissue: :tissue: for you & your family, as I know your dad will be missed.  But I'm happy for him, in the new relationship he will soon have with Jesus.  And I know it's such a comfort to know that he has accepted the Lord, and will be with Him forever.

Thank you Lauren...He is still hanging on.  The hospice nurses tell us that he could go on like this for "awhile".... He had a feeding tube surgically inserted into his belly about 8-10 weeks ago because he was not able to eat or drink anything orally because the tumor in his throat makes him choke.

Now he is choosing not to have his liquid nutrition that we have been feeding him thru the tube 5 x's per day.

Other than the water that he gets with his pain medicaiton to flush out his feeding tube, he is not receiving any nutrition or hydration.

Not sure how long his body can go on.  He is so weak.

BUT...he's in great spirits, pain is managed, he is home where we can all be with him 24/7 and for this we are sooo grateful.

Thanks all for your prayers.  We feel them.  God is good.

Hugs,
Vickie

Prayers go out to you all, and our thoughts are with you daily.   Know that he is at peace with his decisson on the food intake, and since the pain is under control.  It is wonderful that you all can have him at home and enjoy the time.   Always harder on you watching.  :grouphugg:

Thank you all...I so appreciate your prayers and kind thoughts.

Yes, it is his decision regarding his nutrition and water intake.  He seems to be very much at peace with it all at this point.

We were talking today and I asked him if there was anything that I could do for him.  He just smiled and said no.  Thanked me and then just wanted to hold my hand.

We have had some great conversations lately.  He has even asked for forgiveness for the times that he was a less-than-perfect parent!  Goodness how I treasure this time with him.  It truly is a gift.

You know, it's these precious last days and memories that make me so thankful that he can be home with us.  (I have 3 children and I could never spend this much time with him in a hospital or a nursing home.)

I'm thankful to God for the hospice team that we have.  They are all a huge blessing.

The Good Lord gave you two ends.....one for sitting and one for thinking.  Heads you win, tails you lose.
